Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique plans to rest key players, including Donnarumma and Hakimi, ahead of the Coupe de France and Champions League finals, aiming for a treble.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique plans to rest several key players in Ligue 1 to keep them fresh for the upcoming finals. With the league title already secured six games in advance, PSG's focus shifts to the Coupe de France final against Stade de Reims on May 24 and the Champions League final against Inter Milan on May 31.
The players slated for rest include:
Goalkeeper:
Defenders:
- Achraf Hakimi
- Marquinhos
- Nuno Mendes
- Willian Pacho
Midfielders:
- Fabian Ruiz
- Vitinha
This strategic decision aims to prevent fatigue and ensure the team's readiness for the high-stakes matches ahead, as they chase a potential treble.
Paris Saint-Germain's Luis Enrique has given several key players time off, including Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Willian Pacho, Fabian Ruiz, and Vitinha. They will return to training on Wednesday. Ahead of Saturday's match against Montpellier, Enrique explained, “We have a set plan which depends on playing time and travelling throughout the season. You have to balance all that out to arrive in the best possible condition for both finals.”
“When the Champions League final is over, the vast majority will go to the national team. Every player needs a personalised plan. We've managed that, but there are still the final matches to achieve our objectives.

“The players need to arrive mentally fresh ... We're playing against Montpellier and Auxerre (next weekend), which will help us stick to our plan. There are a lot of players and we're managing it individually.”
Ousmane Dembélé is fully fit, according to PSG manager Luis Enrique. Dembélé, the club's top scorer with 33 goals, came on as a substitute in the Champions League semi-final win over Arsenal. Enrique said, “Ousmane Dembélé is perfectly fine. He trained with the team today, he wanted to come. He had permission from the staff not to come, it's what we considered adequate rest time. But if he needs to come, he's completely free to do so.”
Enrique believes PSG deserves a Champions League title after a long wait, noting it's their second final appearance since losing to Bayern Munich in 2020.
“If a team deserves to win, after waiting so long, it's PSG. I know the club was founded the year I was born (in 1970). Let's hope this connection proves true and we can secure the Champions League,” he said.
”The problem is that there will definitely be one team that won't succeed ... but I hope we win.”
