Hindley, who was visibly shaken, sat on the pavement for several minutes before being taken away in an ambulance. Other notable riders involved in the crash include Richard Carapaz, the 2019 Giro winner from Ecuador, French rider Paul Magnier, and British cyclist Adam Yates.
The crash took a heavy toll on the riders. Lennard Kämna's incident resulted in Jai Hindley being the hardest hit, and despite initially getting up on his own, he was forced to abandon the race. This loss deprives his Red Bull Bora teammate Primoz Roglic of a key ally in the mountains.
The crash also affected German rider Juri Hollmann, who was forced to pull out with a suspected fractured arm, as reported by his Alpecin team.
