Osasuna Ends Losing Streak Against Atletico with 2-0 Win
Osasuna secures a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in La Liga, boosting their European hopes. Alejandro Catena and Ante Budimir score the goals.
Osasuna has significantly boosted their European aspirations with a stunning 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid at El Sadar stadium. Goals from Alejandro Catena in the 25th minute and Ante Budimir in the 82nd minute handed Osasuna an impressive victory, ending their six-match losing streak against Atletico Madrid. This win puts Osasuna in a strong position to secure European qualification for the second time in three seasons.
Having lost only once at El Sadar since the turn of the year, with a record of three wins and three draws, Osasuna started the match on a high note against Diego Simeone's side. Their recent form had been shaky, with a 4-2 defeat to Villarreal earlier this month, but they managed to avoid another loss with a 1-1 draw against Real Betis. Currently ranked 9th in La Liga, Osasuna trails the top eight by just two points, making their upcoming fixtures crucial in determining their European qualification chances.
Osasuna created early chances, with Aimar Oroz and Ante Budimir both failing to capitalize. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sergio Herrera made crucial saves to deny in-form striker Alexander Sorloth.

Osasuna took the lead in the 25th minute when Alejandro Catena powerfully headed home Bryan Zaragoza's corner kick.
Atletico intensified their attack after the half-hour mark, nearly equalizing when Sergio Herrera made a smart save on Alexander Sorloth's close-range header.
Atletico continued to probe before halftime but struggled to create clear chances. Giuliano Simeone went wide on the stroke of halftime, and the visitors remained goalless in their last two away league matches.
The second half began similarly to the first, with Osasuna neutralizing Atletico's attack. Frustrated by the lack of creativity, Diego Simeone introduced Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa with about 25 minutes left to play.
Osasuna sealed a vital 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid with Ante Budimir scoring the game's decisive second goal in the 82nd minute. Budimir headed in Kike Barja's delivery at the near post, securing his 20th league goal of the season.
This win marked Osasuna's fourth LaLiga victory in six matches, propelling them to eighth place and level on points with Rayo Vallecano. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid suffered their fourth away loss in nine league outings in 2025, maintaining their third position in the league standings with 70 points from 35 matches.
