Formula 1's Miami GP Locked In Until 2041

The Miami Grand Prix has secured a 10-year contract extension, ensuring its place on the Formula 1 calendar until 2041.

The Miami Grand Prix has secured a 10-year contract extension, ensuring its place on the Formula 1 calendar until 2041. This extension makes the Miami race the longest contracted round in the championship.

“This is a strategic milestone of enormous importance,” Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said. ”In this moment of incredible growth for Formula 1, we want to make sure we stay tuned and work together with the best partner we have.” The Miami Grand Prix is one of three US rounds, taking place around the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

“Miami will be part of our bigger strategy to be even stronger in the United States of America. This is a place where it is crucial to be.

“We are getting bigger and bigger but we are still very small if you compare to the biggest sports franchise in the US... this will help us to grow in the right segment, in the right direction.

“We want to think bigger and bigger. The only way to think big is to work together with partners that are the best and will help us to know an environment that we are still discovering.”

Formula 1 has experienced significant growth, particularly in the Americas, thanks in part to the popular Netflix series “Drive to Survive.” This surge in interest has created opportunities for further expansion in the region.

A new Hollywood film titled “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, is set for release next month, further boosting the sport's profile. Meanwhile, discussions are underway regarding the US media rights package, currently held by ESPN, with Domenicali noting strong interest from potential new bidders.

Miami GP promoter Tom Garfinkel expressed excitement over the contract extension, stating it would allow organizers to invest more in the event and make improvements. “This has a huge impact, both financially on South Florida but also locally here in the Miami Gardens community,” Garfinkel said, highlighting the economic benefits.

The extension provides long-term stability, enabling Garfinkel and his team to plan and execute further enhancements. The Hard Rock Stadium, home to the NFL's Miami Dolphins and a venue for various events, will continue to host the Miami GP, solidifying its presence in the community.

“When you take someone to an event who's a casual fan who may not love the sport, that's when they really fall in love and become more of an avid fan. So we believe if we're here doing that year after year, we're just going to grow more fans here in the United States.”

Garfinkel suggested the Hard Rock Stadium complex could potentially evolve into a motorsports hub, leveraging its existing infrastructure and versatility to host various motorsports events beyond the Miami Grand Prix.
