UECL: Djurgarden Edges Rapid in Extra Time to Reach Semi-finals

Djurgarden books its spot in the Conference League semi-finals with a dramatic win over Rapid Wien, thanks to Gulliksen's extra-time heroics.

Djurgarden made history by reaching the UEFA Conference League semi-finals for the first time in club history. Tobias Gulliksen scored a brace in extra time, securing a 4-1 win over 10-man Rapid Wien and a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Rapid's night quickly turned sour when Mamadou Sangare was sent off after just seven minutes. Initially booked for a poor challenge, the VAR intervened, and Sangare's punishment was upgraded to a red card. Despite being a man down, Rapid managed to hold on until extra time.

Gulliksen's extra-time brace sealed the win for Djurgarden, with the Norwegian scoring twice to send his team into the semi-finals. This historic victory marked a significant milestone for the Swedish side.

Santeri Haarala replaced the injured Nino Zugelj and had Djurgarden's first golden chance, but Niklas Hedl smothered his effort at point-blank range. Rapid then sat deep for the rest of the half, trying to stifle Djurgarden's attack.

However, VAR intervened again, awarding Djurgarden a penalty after Jonas Auer handled the ball in the area. Marcus Danielson scored the penalty, sending Hedl the wrong way and giving Djurgarden the lead. But Rapid equalized just four minutes later when Jacob Une headed a cross into his own net, restoring their aggregate lead.

Rapid's defense held firm despite pressure from Djurgarden, with Serge-Philippe Raux-Yao and Dion Beljo making crucial goal-line clearances around halftime. Beljo had scoring chances but was thwarted by Jacob Rinne. Santeri Haarala's effort went narrowly wide on the hour mark.

Rapid's fortunes changed when Matthias Seidl missed an open goal from six yards after Rinne palmed his initial shot back to him. Djurgarden capitalized on this mistake, scoring with 12 minutes remaining when Keita Kosugi swept the ball into the top corner from a half-cleared corner.

The match went into extra time after Rapid had late chances. However, the 10 men couldn't sustain the pace, and Djurgarden scored again just three minutes into extra time when Tobias Gulliksen unleashed a powerful 25-yard drive into the bottom corner after Tokmac Nguen set up the play. Gulliksen would go on to score again, sealing the win for Djurgarden.
