Olympique de Marseille secured a 4-1 win against Stade Brestois, thanks to Amine Gouiri's impressive hat-trick, propelling them back to second place in Ligue 1. Despite this triumph, Roberto De Zerbi's team has struggled to keep clean sheets, now going seven consecutive games without one.

The match began with a golden chance for Brest, as Mathias Pereira Lage's flicked header set up Abdallah Sima, who charged towards goal. However, Geronimo Rulli pulled off an impressive save on Sima's close-range effort from an angle, keeping Marseille in the game.

Gouiri opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a sharp finish after a pass from Luis Henrique. Brest briefly equalized through Abdallah Sima, but Mason Greenwood restored Marseille's lead with a powerful shot. Gouiri then took center stage, scoring a breathtaking overhead kick before halftime and completing his hat-trick in the 63rd minute with a well-timed run and precise finish.

This victory not only showcased Marseille's attacking prowess but also solidified their position in second place, two points ahead of Lille and 20 points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain. With three games left, Marseille's focus is on securing a top-three finish and a Champions League spot for the 2025-26 season.

Marseille took the lead after just eight minutes when Luiz Henrique's excellent switch of play found Gouiri, who scored with a precise shot into the far corner, beating goalkeeper Gregoire Coudert.

Despite controlling the game without creating many clear chances, Marseille paid for their lack of attacking intensity when Kenny Lala's cross deflected off Adrien Rabiot. Metz capitalized on the opportunity when Jeremy Chardonnet's header hit the crossbar, and Sima scored the rebound, leveling the score.

The Stade Velodrome crowd erupted again on 37 minutes when Marseille regained the lead. A clever free-kick routine involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Adrien Rabiot created space for Mason Greenwood, who unleashed a powerful shot from 25 yards. The ball deflected off Jeremy Chardonnet and into the net, stunning the Brest players.

Just before halftime, Marseille extended their lead with a spectacular goal. Greenwood delivered a precise cross to Amine Gouiri, who chest-controlled the ball and volleyed it with an impressive overhead kick, leaving the Brest goalkeeper with no chance.

The second half was more subdued, but Marseille sealed the win on 63 minutes. Gouiri beat the offside trap and slotted home Adrien Rabiot's through-ball, completing his hat-trick. The goal was initially flagged offside but confirmed by VAR, securing a 4-1 victory for Marseille.

Amine Gouiri was substituted to a standing ovation, replaced by Jonathan Rowe, as Marseille eased to victory despite some defensive lapses. This win moved them two points clear of Lille, who are now in third place.

The battle for a top-three finish and automatic UEFA Champions League qualification intensifies as Marseille faces Lille next Sunday. Meanwhile, Brest hosts already-relegated Montpellier, seeking to avoid back-to-back home defeats in Ligue 1 for the first time in over two years.
