Fulham keeps its European hopes alive with a dramatic 2-1 win over already-relegated Southampton, thanks to Ryan Sessegnon's stoppage-time goal.
Fulham kept their European hopes alive with a dramatic 2-1 win over already-relegated Southampton. Ryan Sessegnon scored the winning goal in stoppage time, securing a crucial victory for the Cottagers.
The win was significant for Fulham, as it kept their push for a European spot ongoing. Meanwhile, Southampton's relegation had already been confirmed, and despite their efforts, they fell short of avoiding the lowest points tally in Premier League history, a record currently held by another team.
Fulham's recent slump in form presented an opportunity for Southampton to secure a rare win. The hosts capitalized on this chance perfectly, with Jack Stephens scoring just 14 minutes in. Stephens headed home Ryan Manning's free-kick delivery, giving Southampton a 1-0 lead.
Raul Jiménez had a couple of good chances to equalize for Fulham late in the first half but couldn't convert them, leaving the Cottagers trailing at halftime.

Fulham stepped up their game in the second half after a lackluster first 45 minutes. They came close to equalizing 11 minutes after the restart when Willian's first-time shot hit the post. However, Southampton's Cameron Archer also had a chance to double the lead but hit the woodwork eight minutes later.
Fulham's pressure eventually paid off when Emile Smith Rowe scored the equalizer with 18 minutes remaining. Smith Rowe controlled Alex Iwobi's chipped pass and shot the ball over Aaron Ramsdale, deflecting off Jack Stephens, to level the score.
The match seemed headed for a draw until stoppage time, when Adama Traore's cross was met by Ryan Sessegnon, who scored the decisive goal. The late winner sparked jubilation among the away fans and lifted Fulham to eighth place, keeping their European hopes alive with four games remaining.
The loss further entrenched Southampton at the bottom of the table, with the team becoming one of the few in Premier League history to lose 14 or more home games in a single season.
