Rowe Urges Marseille to Maintain Momentum After Big Win

Marseille looks to build on momentum after a 5-1 win over Montpellier, with Jonathan Rowe urging the team to keep pushing for Champions League qualification.

England youth international Jonathan Rowe has urged Olympique Marseille to maintain their momentum after a 5-1 win over Montpellier. Marseille had struggled, losing four of their five matches in March and April, but the victory at Stade Velodrome brought relief to Roberto De Zerbi's men.

Rowe, who came off the bench to score, believes his team must keep pushing as the Ligue 1 campaign nears its end. “It has been a difficult few weeks here. I realized you can go from higher to low very quickly, and vice versa, you know,” Rowe said. “In my opinion, we just have to keep pushing and continue our fine performances with goals.”

Jonathan Rowe joined Marseille on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for €15 million after struggling to secure a regular spot at Norwich City. Despite the competition at Marseille, the 21-year-old has made 24 league appearances, scoring three goals.

Rowe reflected on Marseille's 5-1 win over Montpellier, where he scored nine minutes after coming on. “Once we got the second goal, then the fifth goal, we started to feel more confident,” he said. “You guys want to see goals and a good performance and no doubt the first half was difficult.”

Before his introduction, manager Roberto De Zerbi told Rowe,
“He said we needed a little bit more intensity.” Rowe came on for Amine Gouiri and made an impact, contributing to the team's dominant performance.

“Sometimes games like that can get a bit tough physically, so I've got to bring my energy and I'm still young, so I've got to bring as much energy as I can.

“(Marseille’s technical crew) see that I’m working hard and I can make a make an impact when some of my teammates are tired, it is just about not being complacent.

“I think that whole team felt bad that we conceded, but, you know, we work hard every week to try and correct that, so we can have a perfect game.”

Marseille currently sits second in the table with 55 points from 30 matches, just two points ahead of Lille. To secure automatic qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League, they must maintain their recent form.

A win in their upcoming match against Brest would significantly boost Marseille's European hopes. The team will look to build on their momentum when they host Brest on Sunday.

Marseille will wear a special edition jersey featuring Didier Drogba in their match against Brest. The team has a strong record against Brest, finding the net in all 15 home Ligue 1 matches and scoring 30 goals.

Marseille has also shown impressive attacking form this season, scoring five or more goals in a match five times. This feat is matched only by Barcelona and Bayern Munich among Europe's top five leagues, highlighting Marseille's potent offense.
