Day pulled ahead with a 101 break, taking a 6-4 lead. However, Brecel showed resilience and determination, ultimately overcoming the deficit to win 10-7. The 2023 champion's victory sets up a last-16 match at the prestigious tournament.
Luca Brecel stunned world-ranked 36 Jak Jones by taking six of the next seven frames, capitalizing on Jones' mistake of potting the cue ball in the 16th frame.
Brecel will face world number 10 Ding Junhui in the last 16 in a best-of-25-frame match scheduled over three days. The match starts Saturday evening, continues on Sunday, and concludes on Monday. Ding secured his spot with a 10-7 win over Zak Surety earlier this week.
