Son Heung-min Shrugs Off Tottenham Struggles, Eyes South Korea World Cup Berth

Tottenham's Son Heung-min has dismissed concerns about his form and fitness, saying he's 'perfectly fine' ahead of South Korea's World Cup qualifiers against Oman and Jordan.

Son Heung-min, South Korea's star attacker, addressed concerns about his current form and fitness on Wednesday, seeking to put his Tottenham struggles behind him as he focuses on leading his national team to the World Cup.

The 32-year-old Son has endured a challenging season with Tottenham, who are currently 14th in the Premier League under manager Ange Postecoglou. Despite his difficulties with Spurs, Son is determined to make a positive impact for South Korea in their upcoming matches.

Son Heung-min, previously a consistent starter for Tottenham, has faced challenges this season, including a hamstring problem late last year. The pressure from fans has mounted due to his recent performances, with Son scoring only seven Premier League goals this season and not playing the full 90 minutes in the last five league matches.

Speaking to reporters on the eve of a home World Cup qualifier against Oman, South Korea's captain acknowledged the difficulties he has faced with Tottenham. “There were some difficult and challenging moments,” Son admitted. However, he reassured fans about his physical condition, stating, “My physical condition is perfectly fine.”

Son expressed his excitement about playing in front of the South Korean fans for the first time this year, citing it as extra motivation. “Our fans always root hard for us and we don't want to let them down,” he said. With 131 appearances and 51 goals for his country, Son is eager to lead South Korea to victory.

South Korea is on the cusp of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Wins against Oman and Jordan on Tuesday will guarantee their place in the tournament. Even if they fail to secure these victories, South Korea still has two further matches in Asian qualifying to secure a berth.

However, South Korea will be without defensive stalwart Kim Min-jae, who suffered an Achilles injury while playing for Bayern Munich.
