Serie A: Juventus Suffer Third Defeat in Five Matches as Atalanta Run Rout
Atalanta moved six points clear of Juventus in the Serie A standings with a dominant 4-0 win, keeping them within three points of league leaders Inter Milan.
Atalanta delivered a stunning performance, thrashing Juventus 4-0 at the Allianz Stadium and becoming the first team this season to inflict a home Serie A defeat on the Bianconeri. This victory keeps Atalanta within three points of the top of the league table.
The match began with both teams showcasing their intent, and a rapid Atalanta counterattack culminated in Ademola Lookman's shot being blocked by Khéphren Thuram. Thuram then fired over the bar at the other end, following some impressive link-up play. Davide Zappacosta and Lloyd Kelly also sent efforts off-target, while Ederson's header was deflected wide and Isak Hien's acrobatic attempt from the ensuing corner sailed over the crossbar, all within the opening 15 minutes.

The intensity of the match remained high, with Timothy Weah having shots blocked by Zappacosta on either side of Michele Di Gregorio saving Lookman's attempt. Atalanta were then awarded a penalty when Weston McKennie handled Berat Djimsiti's header, and Mateo Retegui, the team's leading scorer, confidently converted the spot-kick. Retegui's penalty fizzed past Di Gregorio's outstretched hand and into the bottom corner, giving Atalanta a crucial lead.
Atalanta gained further control of the match after taking the lead and could have extended their advantage shortly before halftime. Marten de Roon curled a shot wide, while Ademola Lookman had an effort deflected onto the post and another superbly saved by Michele Di Gregorio. Di Gregorio then made another impressive save to deny Davide Zappacosta.

Atalanta secured their second goal just under a minute into the second half. Despite Di Gregorio saving Lookman's shot and Lloyd Kelly blocking Mateo Retegui's attempt, De Roon ultimately finished the move to double Atalanta's lead. Weston McKennie responded by sending a strike wide, but Juventus struggled to mount a comeback. Thiago Motta made three changes in the 54th minute, having already made one at halftime, in an attempt to revitalize his team.
The substitutions led to some improvement in Juventus' play, but they continued to struggle and conceded a third goal in the 66th minute. A well-worked move between Sead Kolasinac and Zappacosta culminated in Kolasinac's backheel setting up Zappacosta for a calm finish, which added to Juventus' frustration. The introduction of Dusan Vlahovic with 15 minutes remaining failed to turn the tide, and things worsened when the striker's slip allowed Lookman to stride forward and fire past Di Gregorio.
The goal added gloss to Atalanta's 4-0 victory, which marked their seventh consecutive Serie A match unbeaten. La Dea remain three points behind league leaders Inter Milan and six points ahead of fourth-placed Juventus, who suffered their third damaging defeat in five matches across all competitions. Notably, this was Juventus' first defeat within 90 minutes during this period.
