Iga Swiatek Cruises into Fourth Round at Indian Wells, Eyes Historic Three-Peat
Defending champion Iga Swiatek moved into the fourth round at Indian Wells with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win over Dayana Yastremska.
Defending champion Iga Swiatek moved one step closer to achieving an unprecedented third consecutive Indian Wells WTA title, dominating Dayana Yastremska 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the fourth round. Swiatek, the world number two from Poland, was in complete control throughout the match, effortlessly overpowering the hard-hitting Ukrainian.
Swiatek's dominance was evident in the statistics, as she converted six of her 11 break chances and didn't face a single break point herself. She won the first 10 games of the match, making it seem like the outcome was never in doubt. Yastremska finally got on the board by winning her last two service games, but by then, the match was all but over.
Despite the one-sided nature of the match, Swiatek acknowledged that closing out the win was still a challenge. “It's always hard to finish a match like that,” Swiatek said. However, she was pleased with her overall performance, adding, “But I'm happy that I got my intensity up the last game and closed it with confidence because for sure it was a great match. I had control from the beginning so I'm happy with the performance for sure.” Swiatek wrapped up the win in just 65 minutes.
Iga Swiatek is on the cusp of making history at Indian Wells, where she could become the first woman to win three titles. Having lifted the trophy in 2022 and 2024, Swiatek boasts an impressive 20-2 record in the California desert, with a winning percentage second only to Martina Navratilova's perfect 10-0 record. Navratilova is the only woman to have won back-to-back titles at Indian Wells, achieving the feat in 1990 and 1991.
The action on Stadium Court began with Swiatek's match, followed by Daniil Medvedev's third-round clash against 20-year-old Southern California native Alex Michelsen. The winner of that match will face 10th-seeded American Tommy Paul, who secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory over 2021 Indian Wells winner Cameron Norrie, currently ranked 77th in the world.

Tallon Griekspoor, the world No. 43, built on his impressive second-round win over top seed Alexander Zverev by defeating France's 29th seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (7/3), 6-3. Griekspoor dominated the first set tiebreaker after an early exchange of breaks and fired 10 aces throughout the match. He broke his 21-year-old opponent in the second set to take a 5-2 lead and eventually secured the win on his second match point.
Sunday's schedule also features a men's match between eighth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and Italian Matteo Berrettini, a rematch of their Dubai quarter-final, which Tsitsipas won en route to the title last week. Additionally, Russian 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, fresh from her title win in Dubai, will face Denmark's Clara Tauson, the same opponent she defeated in the Dubai final to become the youngest ever WTA 1000 champion.
