Bundesliga: Leverkusen Thrash Frankfurt 4-1 to Keep Bundesliga Hopes Alive

Leverkusen kept their Bundesliga title hopes alive with a dominant 4-1 victory over Frankfurt, scoring three goals in a devastating seven-minute spell.

Bayer Leverkusen's impressive away form continued as they thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1, extending their Bundesliga-record unbeaten away run to 29 matches. The victory also brought an end to Frankfurt's four-match unbeaten home streak.

The match lived up to its billing as a high-scoring affair, with the two teams having combined for five goals in each of their last three meetings at Deutsche Bank Park. Leverkusen seized the initiative in the first half, scoring the opening goal through Nathan Tella in the 26th minute. Tella received a pass from Granit Xhaka, skillfully evaded Arthur Theate, and slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner with a precise finish.

Eintracht Frankfurt were unable to respond to Leverkusen's opening goal, and their woes were compounded just three minutes later. Aleix Garcia's corner caused chaos in the area, allowing Nordi Mukiele to capitalize and double Leverkusen's lead with a sharp finish from close range. This goal marked Leverkusen's second of the game, already equalling their tally from their previous three Bundesliga outings.

Leverkusen continued to dominate, and their third goal arrived just four minutes later. A well-crafted move, initiated by Granit Xhaka's long ball to Alejandro Grimaldo, ultimately found its way to Patrik Schick, who finished with ease. This goal capped an impressive first-half display from Leverkusen.

However, Frankfurt managed to plant a seed of doubt in Leverkusen's minds shortly before the break. Hugo Ekitike intercepted Mukiele's poor backpass and scored into an empty net, denying Leverkusen a fourth consecutive clean sheet. Ekitike continued to pose a threat, striking a stunning volley off the post early in the second half.

Leverkusen regained their composure and restored their three-goal cushion midway through the second half. Jeremie Frimpong's initial ball was cleared, but Aleix Garcia responded with a bouncing volley that found its way into Lukas Hradecky's far corner. Frankfurt were unable to mount a late comeback, and Leverkusen ultimately secured a convincing 4-1 victory.

The win was crucial for Leverkusen, who remain eight points adrift of Bayern Munich despite suffering just one league defeat this season. Frankfurt, on the other hand, have now shipped four goals in consecutive outings and are just one point clear of fourth place, having occupied at least third spot since matchday nine.
