Girona and Celta Vigo played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in LaLiga, with both teams scoring twice in an entertaining encounter.
Girona and Celta Vigo played out a captivating 2-2 draw at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi, as the two teams shared the spoils for the second time this season. The match was a thrilling encounter that saw both sides create numerous scoring opportunities.
Celta Vigo's bid to extend their unbeaten run in LaLiga to four consecutive games, a feat they last achieved in December 2023, seemed in jeopardy midway through the first half. Oriol Romeu's powerful long-range strike crashed against the left post, and moments later, Girona capitalized on the let-off. Yangel Herrera expertly headed a precise cross into the path of Viktor Tsygankov, who coolly slotted home from close range to give the hosts the lead.
Celta Vigo swiftly restored parity, however, as Sergio Carreira released Iker Losada with a precise pass, allowing him to score effortlessly from close range and level the score at the interval.
The second half commenced with Girona under pressure, as David Lopez conceded a penalty by fouling Alfon Gonzalez in the box. Marcos Alonso took advantage of the opportunity, calmly converting the penalty into the bottom-left corner to complete the turnaround.

Girona responded promptly, as Viktor Tsygankov turned provider, delivering a pinpoint corner kick that Yangel Herrera emphatically buried into the left corner, setting the stage for an enthralling final 20 minutes. As the match drew to a close, both teams pushed forward with renewed intensity, with Cristhian Stuani and Gonzalez both spurning scoring opportunities at either end.
The draw sees Girona and Celta Vigo occupy adjacent positions in the LaLiga table, in 10th and 11th places, respectively. Although Michel's side avoided a fourth consecutive defeat for the first time since 2019, they will lament surrendering their early advantage. Conversely, Celta Vigo missed the opportunity to narrow the gap to the top six, as they strive for a European finish for the first time since the 2015/16 season.
