Juventus Coach Motta: We'll Go for Win Against PSV Eindhoven

Juventus coach Thiago Motta says his team will aim to win against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League playoff second leg.

Juventus coach Thiago Motta has made it clear that his team will not adopt a defensive approach in the second leg of their Champions League playoff against PSV Eindhoven. Despite holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, Motta emphasized that Juventus will aim to secure another win. “This is the most important game of our season. We've taken an important first step but it's not enough. We don't know how to play to get a draw and we take to the field to win,” Motta told reporters on Tuesday.

Motta's confidence stems from Juventus' recent performances, including their late win over PSV Eindhoven in the first leg and a 1-0 Serie A victory against champions Inter Milan on Sunday. As Juventus prepare to face PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion, Motta has urged his team to stay focused. “In football you have to be prepared to do anything and think about everything. It will be important to use our heads well.”

With a spot in the Champions League last 16 at stake, Motta acknowledged the importance of his team being at their best. “We have to hope that our team is at its best in every aspect. We want to do our best to deserve a place in the next round,” he said. By emphasizing the need for a win, Motta has set the tone for Juventus' approach in the second leg.

Juventus coach Thiago Motta is aware that PSV Eindhoven will pose a tougher challenge on their home turf, despite Juventus having already beaten them twice this season, including a 3-1 win in their Champions League opener in September. Motta noted that PSV have a strong home record, with their last loss at the Philips Stadion dating back to November 2022. To counter PSV's attacking threat, Motta emphasized the need for Juventus to press high up the pitch. “We have to press them very hard up front because if we leave spaces in front of them they play very well,” he said.

Motta also highlighted the importance of using the ball effectively to create scoring opportunities. He acknowledged that PSV are accustomed to attacking with a large number of players, which can make them difficult to defend against. To overcome this challenge, Motta stressed the need for quality, intensity, and clever use of the ball. “They're used to attacking with a lot of men. We have to use the ball well with quality and intensity to create goalscoring opportunities and convert them,” he said.
