EPL: Chelsea Cruise Past Southampton with 4-0 Victory
Chelsea secured a convincing 4-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League, with goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella.
Chelsea returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, thrashing struggling Southampton 4-0 in the Premier League. This convincing win marked Chelsea's 12th victory in 15 encounters against teams starting the day at the bottom of the table, with only two draws and one loss in such matches.
Southampton, fresh from a 2-1 win at Ipswich Town in their previous league outing, had the opportunity to secure their first consecutive away Premier League wins since June 2020. However, an out-of-form Chelsea side proved to be an insurmountable challenge for the Saints, who found themselves trailing by the time the half-time whistle blew.
Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez showcased his playmaking skills, twice finding Cole Palmer with pinpoint passes. Although Palmer's first effort was miscued and his second shot was saved by Aaron Ramsdale, Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock from the resulting corner. Tosin Adarabioyo's header was turned in by Christopher Nkunku at the back post, giving the hosts a deserved lead.
Southampton's attacking opportunities were scarce, but they did come close to scoring when Paul Onuachu's header forced Filip Jorgensen into a crucial save. This proved to be a rare moment of threat from the Saints, as Chelsea dominated the contest and ultimately secured a resounding 4-0 victory.
Chelsea doubled their lead just minutes later, courtesy of Pedro Neto's clinical finish. The winger's darting underlapping run created space behind the Southampton defense, allowing him to fire past Aaron Ramsdale with ease.
The Blues continued to dominate, adding a third goal before the break. Pedro Neto was instrumental once again, delivering a precise set-piece that allowed Levi Colwill to score his first goal of the season. This strike marked a special moment for Colwill, who received an early birthday present courtesy of Neto's assist.
Chelsea maintained their control after the restart, but their clinical edge deserted them as several chances went begging. Enzo Fernandez continued to create opportunities, picking out Christopher Nkunku with a pinpoint pass, but the French international's header failed to find the target. Cole Palmer's struggles in front of goal persisted, as he sent a bouncing ball sailing over the bar. Jadon Sancho's neat turn then freed up Pedro Neto, but the winger miscontrolled the ball in a promising position.

Chelsea eventually added to their first-half lead with a fourth and final goal 12 minutes from time. A swift counter-attack culminated in substitute Tyrique George squaring the ball for Marc Cucurella, who fired home with precision to seal the Blues' 4-0 victory.
The evening was capped off on a positive note for Chelsea, as 17-year-old Shim Mheuka made a late introduction, marking a promising moment for the young player. This victory propelled Chelsea back into the top four, at least temporarily, as they continue to navigate the Premier League landscape.
For Southampton, the defeat marked a dismal end to a frustrating double-header against Chelsea, having conceded nine goals across their two Premier League meetings this season. Ivan Juric's side will be relieved to have seen the last of the Blues for the time being. Unfortunately, the loss has further exacerbated Southampton's concerning goal difference, which continues to deteriorate. More pressing, however, is the team's precarious position at the foot of the table, with a mere nine points and a daunting 13-point deficit to safety.
