Bundesliga: Bayern Munich Held to Goalless Draw by Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern Munich were held to a 0-0 draw by Bayer Leverkusen, extending their unbeaten run to six consecutive matches across all competitions.

Bayern Munich's bid to reclaim the Bundesliga title received a boost as they secured a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. This stalemate marked the first goalless encounter between the two German giants since April 2017. The match began at an electrifying pace, with both teams intensely vying for control. Tensions flared in the 11th minute when Piero Hincapie was booked for a reckless challenge on Dayot Upamecano, prompting a confrontation between the two sets of players.

Despite the abundance of attacking talent on display, clear-cut opportunities were scarce in the early stages. Kim Min-jae exemplified Bayer Leverkusen's defensive solidity by blocking Nathan Tella's attempt, which was unleashed by an ingenious free-kick. However, Die Werkself continued to showcase their creative flair, with Florian Wirtz's improvised shot saved before Jeremie Frimpong headed the rebound onto the crossbar.

Bayer Leverkusen maintained their ascendancy, and Tella soon found himself latching onto a superb Hincapie cross, only to become the second Leverkusen player in quick succession to strike the bar. Wirtz then showcased his audacity by attempting a speculative strike from the halfway line, which sailed wide with Manuel Neuer off his line. As the first half drew to a close, Harry Kane headed off target, but the effort was ruled out for offside, ensuring Bayern Munich ended the half without registering a single shot – a first since records began in the 1992/93 season.

Bayern Munich's struggles persisted in the second half, exemplified by a chaotic sequence of events following Alex Grimaldo's free-kick. Manuel Neuer's attempted punch led to a corner, which ultimately resulted in Nathan Tella's acrobatic shot sailing wide.

The hosts continued to press, and another corner caused problems for Bayern, with Hiroki Ito making a crucial intervention on the goal line to deny Tella's header. In response, Vincent Kompany made a quadruple substitution in an attempt to revitalize his team's fortunes.

Bayern Munich finally registered their first shot on target in the 73rd minute, but Harry Kane's effort from point-blank range was blocked. Tella's subsequent attempt suffered the same fate, and Leverkusen quickly regained the initiative. As the match drew to a close, neither side could find a decisive goal, with Florian Wirtz and Leon Goretzka sending efforts wide at either end.

In the final moments, Neuer made a crucial save to deny Amine Adli's close-range shot, and Wirtz directed the rebound past the post. Ultimately, the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, extending both Leverkusen and Bayern Munich's unbeaten runs to six consecutive matches across all competitions. While the draw benefits Bayern more, given their eight-point lead over Leverkusen atop the Bundesliga table with 12 matches remaining, it represents a missed opportunity for Die Werkself to close the gap.
