Roma Continue Unbeaten Run with 3-1 Win Over Genoa in Serie A

AS Roma extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a 3-1 victory over Genoa in Serie A, moving within five points of the European qualification positions under Claudio Ranieri's guidance.

AS Roma continued their impressive home form in Serie A, securing a comfortable 3-1 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico. This win marked Roma's sixth consecutive home triumph, propelling them into the top half of the Serie A standings.

Roma have been known for their fast starts at the Stadio Olimpico, having scored within the first 13 minutes in their previous three home games. Paulo Dybala nearly maintained this trend, unleashing a powerful free-kick that rattled the crossbar just nine minutes into the match. Although they didn't score immediately, Roma's patience was eventually rewarded.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half, courtesy of a well-crafted move. Lorenzo Pellegrini's volley was initially saved by Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali, but Artem Dovbyk was perfectly positioned inside the six-yard area to capitalize on the rebound. Dovbyk's finish marked his fifth goal in six games, showcasing his impressive form in front of goal.

Just as Roma were gaining momentum and pushing for a second goal, Genoa caught them off guard with a well-executed corner kick. Fabio Miretti delivered a precise pass to Patrizio Masini inside the area, and the midfielder responded with a first-time volley that sailed past a helpless Mile Svilar and into the net.

The equalizer gave Genoa a surge of confidence, and they nearly took the lead before halftime. Alessandro Zanoli managed to get behind Roma's defense, but his indecisive cross was cleared, preventing a potential disaster for the hosts. This close call seemed to spark Roma's determination to regain control of the match.

Roma reasserted their dominance after the break, driven by their desire to restore their lead and extend their unbeaten home streak. The Giallorossi felt aggrieved when a penalty appeal was dismissed by referee Luca Zufferli, as the ball appeared to strike Stefano Sabelli's hand inside the area. However, their frustration was short-lived, as substitute Stephan El Shaarawy scored a stunning goal to put Roma back in front.

El Shaarawy's pinpoint curling effort from 20 yards found the bottom corner of the net, restoring Roma's lead. The hosts then sealed the victory with a late third goal, courtesy of Paulo Dybala's clever finish. After Genoa failed to clear Manu Koné's cross, Dybala pounced on the opportunity, lifting the ball over Nicola Leali and into the net to secure a 3-1 win for Roma.

Claudio Ranieri's impact at Roma continues to be felt, as the Giallorossi have now moved within five points of the Serie A European qualification positions. This upswing in form is largely attributed to Roma's impressive five-match unbeaten run, which has injected new life into their season.

Genoa, led by Patrick Vieira, showed flashes of brilliance at the Stadio Olimpico, hinting at a potential upset. However, Roma's superior quality eventually told, and the visitors were outplayed. The defeat marked only Vieira's second loss in nine games at the helm of the Rossoblu, highlighting the progress the team has made under his guidance.
