Newly signed Deportivo La Coruna forward Blessing Nkor is relishing the opportunity to face Barcelona superstar Aitana Bonmati and Atletico Madrid's Rasheedat Ajibade in the Primera Division Femenina. The 21-year-old Nigerian international joins Deportivo after impressive stints with Turkey's Gaziantep Asya Spor and Egypt's Pyramid FC.

Nkor's move to Deportivo marks her entry into the esteemed ranks of Nigerian footballers who have played professionally in Spain. She follows in the footsteps of notable players like Asisat Oshoala, Ajibade, Rinsola Babajide, Gift Monday, Francisca Ordega, Chidinma Okeke, Peace Efih, Rita Chikwelu, Toni Payne, Charity Adule, Osinachi Ohale, and Ngozi Okobi.

Nkor expressed her excitement about playing in the “biggest league in the world” and is eager to make a significant impact for Fran Alonso's side. “I feel so good and am so happy to be here. Deportivo are a great club, and it’s such an honour to wear the badge,” Nkor told (link unavailable) “The Spanish league is undoubtedly the biggest in the world, and I’m proud to be part of it. Many great players have graced Liga F, and I’m motivated to leave my mark here as well.”

Nkor is particularly looking forward to facing Aitana Bonmati, the reigning Ballon d'Or Feminin winner, and her Super Falcons teammate Rasheedat Ajibade. “I’m especially looking forward to facing Aitana Bonmati and my international teammate, Rasheedat Ajibade,” Nkor said. Bonmati had a phenomenal season, winning every major trophy at the club level with Barcelona, including Liga F, the Champions League, the Supercopa, and the Copa de la Reina.

Blessing Nkor Sets Sights on Success with Deportivo

Blessing Nkor, the versatile forward who began her football journey at Osklean Football Academy, is quickly settling into her new life in northwest Spain. Thanks to the warm welcome from her teammates, Nkor is already feeling at home.

Nkor has expressed her enthusiasm for joining Deportivo, citing the club's perfect blend of stadium, fans, and teammates. “I think Deportivo is the perfect club for me,” she said. “I love the stadium, the fans, and my teammates.” Nkor's positive experience has been further enhanced by the team's warm reception, making her feel like part of the family.

Nkor's first training session with the team was a resounding success, with the Nigerian international enjoying every moment. She praised the excellent food, phenomenal football culture, and fantastic atmosphere, saying, “The atmosphere is fantastic, and my teammates welcomed me as if we’ve known each other for a long time.” With her seamless integration into the team, Nkor is now focused on achieving her goals with Deportivo.

Blessing Nkor Shares Motivation for Joining Deportivo and Sets Goals

Blessing Nkor has revealed her motivation for choosing Deportivo over other interested clubs, citing her long-term goal of playing professionally in Spain. ”What motivated me to join Deportivo was my long-term goal of playing professionally in Spain,” she explained. Nkor's desire to play in Spain stems from the country's reputation as a hub for competitive women's football. “Why Spain, you may ask? It’s because Spain is the most competitive country and the biggest in terms of women’s football globally.”

Nkor believes that playing in Spain will provide her with the perfect platform to advance her career and showcase her skills. “Besides that, it offers an opportunity to advance my career and provides the perfect platform for me to showcase the qualities I possess.” Despite the allure of A Coruna's beautiful cityscape, Nkor's priorities are clear. “A Coruna is a beautiful city, but trust me, I'm not here for selfies. My mission here is to score goals week in and week out and lead my club to glory.”

On a personal level, Nkor is driven to make a lasting impact in the league. “On a personal note, I want to make a mark as one of the best players in the league.” When asked about her preferred position and how she can contribute to Fran Alonso's team, Nkor highlighted her versatility. “I play as a right-wing forward, left-wing forward, and in an attacking role. I'm skilled at adapting to the coach's style and formation, and Deportivo will definitely help refine my playing style.”

Blessing Nkor Set for Deportivo La Coruna Debut

Blessing Nkor is poised to make her highly anticipated debut for Deportivo La Coruna, having been named in the squad for their upcoming match against Real Betis Feminas at Ciudad Deportiva Luis de Sol. With Deportivo currently sitting on 12 points from 15 matches in the 2024/25 campaign, a crucial away victory would provide a significant boost, helping the team create some distance from the relegation zone.

Prior to her move to Spain, Nkor had already established herself as a formidable goal-scorer in Nigeria and Tanzania. She represented topflight Nigerian sides Ibom Angels and Sunshine Queens, as well as Tanzanian giants Yanga Princess. On the international stage, Nkor has represented Nigeria at both the U20 and senior levels. She made her senior debut in an international friendly against France in November 2024.

Nkor's impressive form and experience have also put her in contention for a spot in the Super Falcons squad for the 2024 Africa Women's Cup of Nations in Morocco later this year. As she prepares to make her Deportivo La Coruna debut, Nkor will be looking to continue her impressive goal-scoring form and help her new team climb the league table.
