Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna expressed his disappointment after his team surrendered the lead twice, settling for a 2-2 draw against Fulham on Sunday.
The match was marked by a series of penalties, with three being awarded throughout the game. Despite taking the lead on two separate occasions, Ipswich were unable to hold on, ultimately being forced to share the points with their hosts.
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna shared his post-match thoughts, expressing a sense of disappointment despite being proud of his team's performance. “When you lead twice, you always feel a little bit disappointed not to win. I'm so proud of the way we played. We had some chances to get a two-goal margin but weren't able to take them,” McKenna said.
McKenna acknowledged the frustration of not securing a win but emphasized the team's resilience and collective effort. “It's frustrating. Look, we look on today and the last game with a lot of pride in what we're doing and we'll keep on going,” he noted. The Ipswich boss praised his team's defensive display, particularly in the second half, and highlighted the players' unity and positive approach to the game. “We had to defend a lot, and I thought we managed the second half well. The players are right in it together and approach the games in the right manner.”
McKenna chose not to focus on the league table, instead emphasizing the team's internal goals. “I don't know where we are exactly in the table. We're just focusing on ourselves. We've got a little pause for the FA Cup, and then we look forward to Brighton and Manchester City,” he said. Looking ahead to the second half of the season, McKenna expressed optimism about the recent loan signing of Ben Godfrey from Atalanta. “We wanted to add to that area. Ben is a good player and an experienced player. That will be a good boost for us in the second half of the season,” McKenna added.
