PSG Edge Monaco in Thrilling French Super Cup Clash
Ousmane Dembele scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Paris Saint-Germain defeated Monaco to lift the French Super Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain secured their 11th Trophee des Champions title in the last 12 editions, thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Ousmane Dembele. The French Super Cup clash pitted the reigning Ligue 1 champions, PSG, against Monaco, the Coupe de France winners.
In a unique arrangement, the match was hosted in Qatar, marking the first time the country has staged this prestigious event in 2025. Despite being a showcase event, the Trophee des Champions is rarely held in France, adding to the excitement and novelty of this edition.
The match began with a subdued atmosphere, resembling a pre-season friendly, but Paris Saint-Germain sparked to life within 10 minutes. Desire Doue nearly capitalized on a mistake by Philipp Kohn, only to see his effort ricochet off the crossbar, denying PSG an early lead.
The Parisians dominated the first half, creating several scoring opportunities. Ousmane Dembele showcased his skill, beating two defenders before forcing a impressive save from Kohn midway through the half. Monaco, on the other hand, struggled to penetrate PSG's defense, and it wasn't until five minutes before the break that they finally tested Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, the Italian goalkeeper proved equal to the task, comfortably saving Maghnes Akliouche's shot from the edge of the area.
Ousmane Dembele, however, had other plans, and his persistence ultimately paid off. The PSG winger was a constant threat throughout the match, and his determination was rewarded in the end. Dembele cleverly positioned himself at the far post, where he met Fabian Ruiz's precise delivery, steering the ball into an empty net and securing the trophy for PSG.
