Canadiens Edge Capitals 3-2 in Overtime Thriller

The Canadiens edged the Capitals 3-2 in overtime, with Nick Suzuki scoring the winner just 75 seconds into the extra period.

The Washington Capitals suffered another overtime setback, falling 3-2 to the Montreal Canadiens. Despite a strong start, with Jakob Chychrun opening the scoring 2:56 into the game, the Capitals were unable to maintain their momentum.

The Canadiens responded with two goals in the second period, turning the tide of the game. Cole Caufield scored the equalizer a quarter of the way through the frame, followed by Josh Anderson's shorthanded goal, which put Montreal in front. The Capitals trailed heading into the third period, but they were determined to find a response.

That response came 1:54 into the third period, as Lars Eller scored to tie the game. The remainder of the period saw no further goals, sending the game into overtime. Just 75 seconds into the extra five-minute period, Nick Suzuki struck the winner for the Canadiens, securing another thrilling victory.

Despite the loss, the Capitals remain atop the Eastern Conference, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs by three points. Meanwhile, the Canadiens have won their last three matches, all in overtime or a shootout, and have climbed to 10th spot, just one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final postseason spot.
