Bundesliga: Dortmund Blow Two-Goal Lead as Bremen Fight Back for 2-2 Draw

Borussia Dortmund's winless streak extended to five matches as they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Werder Bremen.

Borussia Dortmund's winless streak extended to five matches across all competitions as they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Werder Bremen, despite being reduced to 10 men. The match marked the debut of caretaker boss Mike Tullberg, who took the reins after the club parted ways with Nuri Åžahin following a dismal run of four consecutive defeats.

Tullberg's interim tenure got off to a challenging start, with Dortmund facing an uphill battle after Nico Schlotterbeck's dismissal. The defender received his third Bundesliga red card for denying Marvin Ducksch a clear goalscoring opportunity, leaving his teammates to navigate the remainder of the contest with a numerical disadvantage.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Borussia Dortmund's teammates rallied around Nico Schlotterbeck's dismissal, taking the lead through Serhou Guirassy just shy of the half-hour mark. Guirassy's header, aided by the crossbar, found the back of the net after Julian Brandt expertly steered the ball across goal from Julian Ryerson's deep cross. This marked Guirassy's second Bundesliga strike since November.

Guirassy played a pivotal role in doubling Dortmund's advantage early in the second half. The striker cleverly pulled away to the back post, meeting Pascal Groß's cross with a cushioned effort that deflected off Marco Friedl and into the net. At this point, it seemed as though Bremen were struggling to capitalize on their numerical advantage, lacking a clear plan to break down Dortmund's defense.

However, the introduction of substitute Leonardo Bittencourt proved to be a game-changer for Bremen. Just after the hour mark, Bittencourt unleashed a stunning first-time shot from the edge of the box, finding the top corner with precision. With momentum now on their side, Bremen swiftly restored parity through Marvin Ducksch, who guided the ball in at the near post to score his first goal against his hometown club.

Ultimately, Dortmund had to endure intense pressure from Bremen to secure a draw, which leaves them in 10th place, one point behind their visitors. Bremen, meanwhile, remains winless in four league matches in 2025, highlighting the need for improvement in their upcoming fixtures.
