Nigerian Man Faces US Deportation Over Rape Allegations

A Nigerian national residing in the United States is at risk of deportation following rape charges.

A 37-year-old Nigerian man is facing deportation to Nigeria after being arrested by US Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for raping a girl, a crime he had previously been convicted of. According to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the man was apprehended by deportation officers from ERO Baltimore's Criminal Apprehension Program on August 2, 2024.

The ERO office in Baltimore, Maryland, reported that the suspect had entered the US legally on July 24, 2015, but became an illegal immigrant after violating the terms of his admission. This highlights the importance of adhering to immigration laws and regulations.

Darius Reeves, the ERO Baltimore acting Field Office Director, emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “This Nigerian national was arrested for rape and later released, only to commit another sexual crime against the same victim.” This statement underscores the need for stringent measures to prevent such heinous crimes.

“The noncitizen used despicable predatory tactics to victimize and later re-victimize a Maryland child. ERO Baltimore takes our commitment to our Maryland communities very seriously, and we will relentlessly pursue such offenders who intend harm to our residents.”

The 37-year-old Nigerian man has a disturbing history of sex crimes, with charges dating back to December 20, 2017, for rape. Furthermore, on February 7, 2019, he faced additional charges for sex crimes against the same minor victim.

The severity of his crimes was reflected in his sentencing by a Prince George's County Court in Upper Marlboro. The court handed down a 20-year prison sentence, accompanied by five years of supervised probation, for the rape conviction. Additionally, he received a 10-year prison sentence, also with five years of supervised probation, for a third-degree sex offense.

Following the completion of his prison sentence, the Nigerian national will be transferred to Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) custody, pending his deportation to Lagos, Nigeria.
