Real Madrid's Champions League Hopes Dented After 2-0 Loss to Liverpool

Real Madrid's Champions League hopes take a hit after 2-0 loss to Liverpool, but manager Carlo Ancelotti remains confident of qualification and praises Kylian Mbappé despite penalty miss.

Real Madrid's Champions League campaign suffered a setback on Wednesday, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. The loss leaves Real Madrid with a record of two wins and three defeats in the competition so far, with 9 goals scored and 9 conceded.

Despite the disappointing result, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with his team's performance, saying: “I liked the team because we competed well.” However, Ancelotti was also realistic about the team's chances of progressing to the next round, stating: “It doesn't change much because even if we won... it was difficult to be in the top 8.”

Ancelotti remains confident that Real Madrid will qualify for the next round and compete at the highest level, as they have done in previous years. “We will qualify to the next round and we will compete as every year. You will see,” he said.

The Italian manager also offered his support to star player Kylian Mbappé, who missed a penalty in the match against Liverpool. “Mbappé has all of our support and he will soon turn the situation around,” Ancelotti said. “Mbappé is an extraordinary player, we must be patient. He's doing well and adapting well. We are with him.”

The defeat to Liverpool leaves Real Madrid 24th in the Champions League table with 6 points, while Liverpool top the table with 15 points.
