Nigeria's Defence Headquarters has announced a significant victory in the fight against terrorism, with at least 96 terrorists eliminated in recent operations in northern Nigeria. Among those apprehended is notorious terrorist commander Usman Maisaje, along with 227 other suspects.


Maisaje's capture is particularly notable, as he was a close associate of Kachalla Boka, a high-profile terrorist leader still at large. According to Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maisaje is now cooperating with authorities and providing valuable intelligence to support ongoing military operations.


This breakthrough is a prove of the Nigerian military's relentless efforts to combat terrorism. With Maisaje's cooperation, the military can gain crucial insights into terrorist networks and strategies, ultimately enhancing national security.

“During the week, troops neutralised 96, arrested 227 persons, and rescued 157 kidnapped hostages,” Buba said.


“Troops in the NC operational theatre arrested a notorious terrorist commander identified as Usman Maisaje.


“The arrested terrorist commander is a close associate of a wanted high-profile terrorist leader known as Kachalla Boka. The arrest has been rewarding in intelligence value as he is cooperating and providing troops with much-needed intelligence for further operations.”


In a significant blow to oil thieves, Nigerian troops have seized crude oil worth N712 million and apprehended 45 suspects in the South-South region. This operation is part of the military's ongoing efforts to curb oil theft and insecurity in the country. According to Major General Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the troops also destroyed 48 boats, 52 drums, 38 storage tanks, and 60 illegal refining sites, recovering 712,535 litres of stolen crude oil and 76,800 litres of illegally refined diesel.


The military's success in the South-South region is complemented by their achievements in the North, where they neutralized 96 terrorists, arrested 227 suspects, and rescued 157 kidnapped victims. “Troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed four dugout pits, 48 boats, 52 drums and 38 storage tanks. Other items recovered include 55 cooking ovens, two speedboats, one tricycle, six mobile phones, six vehicles and 60 illegal refining sites. Troops recovered 712,535 litres of stolen crude oil and 76,800 litres of illegally refined AGO,” he said.


Nigerian troops have made a major haul, seizing 71 advanced weapons and 1,463 rounds of ammunition. This major breakthrough is part of the military's ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and insecurity in the country. The capture of these weapons and ammunition will likely disrupt the operations of terrorist groups and make the country safer.
