Betta Edu's Dismissal: Presidency Breaks Silence

No Comeback for Betta Edu, Tinubu Insists

“If she's not coming back to the cabinet, it means she's not part of it...”

President Tinubu confirms Betta Edu's dismissal is final, citing alleged financial scandal

Reports indicate that President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Edu, 37, was suspended in January 2024 due to allegations of misappropriating over N585 million in public funds.

Additionally, Edu faced scrutiny for her involvement in the N3 billion disbursement for verifying the National Social Register during former President Muhammadu Buhari's tenure, sparking widespread outrage.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed Edu's dismissal on October 24.

Speaking on why her name was not listed along with the names of other ministers dismissed by President Tinubu, as announced by the Presidency on Wednesday, October 23, the presidential aide said, “Since the President did not bring her back, it is as clear as it is.

“If she's not coming back to the cabinet, it means she's not part of it, especially if you didn't see her name in the reshuffled cabinet yesterday.”

“The President has the power to hire and fire, to appoint and reappoint whoever he wants to reappoint. If her name is not there, that means she's not there. I don't think there is anything to argue about,” he added.
