A Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed this morning at around 7:45 am, shortly after taking off from Port Harcourt for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State. Fortunately, all five crew members survived the crash with minor injuries and are receiving treatment at the NAF Medical Centre in Port Harcourt.
According to Air Cdre Edward Gabkwet, the NAF spokesman, the cause of the crash is still unknown. However, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has already arrived in Port Harcourt to assess the situation and ensure the crew's well-being.
In a separate incident, a helicopter carrying eight people, including six passengers and two crew members, crashed in the Gulf of Guinea. Three bodies have been recovered so far, and the search continues for the remaining five. The helicopter, registered as 5N-BQG, was operated by East Winds Aviation and had taken off from the Port Harcourt NAF Base.
