Enzo Fernández Reveals Chelsea's Stance on Olympic Participation
Enzo Fernández shares his disappointment over Chelsea's decision to block his Olympic participation, despite initial approval from Chelsea, citing the need for pre-season fitness.
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has expressed his disappointment and frustration over the club's decision to prevent him from representing Argentina at the Olympics. In an interview with TyC Sports, Fernández revealed that he had initially received approval from then-manager Mauricio Pochettino to participate in the tournament, but a change in coaching staff and club position ultimately led to his exclusion.
Fernández stated, “I did everything possible to be there, Pochettino had given me the okay... there was a change of coach and the club changed its position.” He also apologized to Argentina's Olympic team coach, Javier Mascherano, for not being able to join the squad.
Ironically, Fernández is currently representing Argentina at the Copa America, where they have qualified for the quarterfinals. His impressive performances have been a highlight of the tournament, showcasing his skills and dedication to his country.
Chelsea's decision to prioritize Fernández's pre-season fitness over his Olympic participation has sparked debate among fans and pundits. While the club's stance is understandable, it's clear that Fernández is disappointed to miss out on this opportunity to represent his country on the biggest stage.
Fernández's commitment to Argentina and his desire to participate in the Olympics are admirable, and fans will be eager to see him continue to shine at the Copa America and in the upcoming season with Chelsea.
