Tinubu Appoints Wike's Ex-Aide, Woke, to Head Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority
Wike's former chief of staff, Chukwuemeka Woke MD Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority, is appointed by Tinubu.
Chukwuemeka Woke has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD)/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority by President Bola Tinubu.
Woke's appointment was made known in a statement released on Thursday, May 8, and signed by Ajuri Ngelale, the President's Special Advisor on Media and Publicity.
“President Tinubu appoints managing director of Ogun-Osun river basin development authority” is the title of the statement.
According to the statement announcing his appointment, Woke was a seasoned politician and engineer who held the position of Chairman of Rivers' Emohua Local Government Area.
Olufemi Odumosu, who was reappointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari for a second four-year term in January 2021, is succeeded by Woke.
Woke was described as an experienced engineer and politician in the statement announcing his appointment. He had held positions as Chief of Staff at the government house in Port Harcourt for many years, as well as Chairman of the Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.
One of the twelve River Basin Development Authorities created by the Federal Government under Decrees 25 of 1976 and 31 of 1977 is the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.
The Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, a parastatal under the Ministry of Water Resources, was formally established on July 4, 1977, by Ibrahim El Yakub, the Federal Commissioner (Minister) for Water Resources at the time.
The statement concluded by saying that Tinubu expects the new CEO of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to carry out his responsibilities with honesty and in accordance with the highest standards of transparency, while working to harness and develop the region's potential for water resources and making sure the Authority serves as a conduit for comprehensive and integrated industrial, agricultural, and community development.
