Milei's Budget Cuts Spark Mass Strike in Argentina
Argentines on strike against President Javier Milei over cuts to public spending
The majority of Argentina has been impacted by a nationwide strike protesting cuts to public spending, with many stores, banks, and schools being closed.
On Thursday, there was a limited bus service available but train and metro services were suspended.
President Javier Milei was given a wake-up call by one of the leading union leaders, Hector Daher, who described the 24-hour strike as such.
Daher urged him to reconsider some of the reductions made to social programs and subsidies.
Following his election in December, Milei, a right-wing economist, started enacting severe austerity measures.
According to him, his actions are required to lower Argentina's public deficit and rein in the nation's record-breaking annual inflation rate of about 300%.
The president condemned the walkout, claiming his administration had already given the unions numerous concessions.
