Tijani Babangida's Tragic Loss: Wife & Brother Died in Road Accident
Olympic gold medallist and former Super Eagles player Tijani Babangida's wife perishes in a car accident, and his brother passes away.
On Thursday, May 9, Tijani Babangida, an Olympic gold medallist and former Super Eagles footballer, was involved in an automobile accident that resulted in the death of his younger brother, Ibrahim.
The wife of Babangida, the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, or PFAN, was also injured in the accident and is currently being treated at a hospital with her husband.
The event was disclosed in a statement by Emmanuel Babayaro, the General Secretary of PFAN and a former teammate.
It was discovered that the collision happened along the Kaduna-Zaria Road, even if the specifics were still unclear at the time of this report.
“Comrades! Let us be in prayers for our president, Tijani Babangida, who just had a ghastly motor accident along the Kaduna-Zaria Eoad,” he announced.
“Ibrahim Babangida, his younger brother, died on the spot from the accident while Mr President (Babangida) and his family were taken to the hospital.
“May the soul of Ibrahim Babangida Rest In Peace with God, amen.”
“He is currently admitted at Shika Hospital in Zaria, where he is receiving treatment and to the glory of God he is conscious,” Babayaro continued, further verifying the occurrence.
The late Ibrahim, 47, was a retired football player who competed for the Golden Eagles in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Japan in 1993.
Prior to joining Dutch team Volendam in 1997, he played for regional teams Bank of The North, Stationery Stores, and Katsina United.
