Super Eagles Will Have A New Coach Within Next 2 Weeks — Sports Minister

NFF to hire new coach for Super Eagles in 2 weeks time

According to Minister of Sports Development John Enoh, the Super Eagles' new head coach would be revealed “in the next one or two weeks.”

On Thursday, the minister had a conversation with Channels TV.

Following his dismissal as the Eagles head coach in February, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not yet named a permanent replacement for Jose Peseiro.

To fill the position, the federation had requested applications from interested and qualified parties in the open, but not much has been released subsequently.

The Eagles' 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic are slated for June, and there has been a growing chorus of voices demanding that the head coach selection process go more quickly.

Speaking about the issue, Enoh promised Nigerians that a permanent successor for Peseiro will be announced before the upcoming games, adding that the NFF is “conscious and mindful” of them.

The minister said: “We've had a skay start to our World Cup qualification campaign. There is a lot of mileage to cover. We did not go for the last World Cup, and we cannot afford not to go for the next.

“The first responsibility of getting a coach lies with the NFF. I have been in touch with the NFF. Nigerians did not expect that it would take this long to find the next Super Eagle coach, but the NFF is conscious and mindful that the World Cup qualifiers are coming up in June.

“What I can assure you is that in the next one or two weeks, at the most, the senior national team will have a coach.”
