FOLLOWING Elon Musk's directives, Tesla is getting ready to lay off a significant number of workers—more than 6,000 people—across its sites in Texas and California.

According to a WARN notice submitted to the Texas Workforce Commission, these cuts will occur over a 14-day period starting on June 14.

Separate notifications filed in California reveal that Tesla intends to lay off 3,332 workers at multiple locations concurrently.

Tesla claimed to have employed more than 140,000 people worldwide before these layoffs.

However, insiders familiar with the situation suggest that the actual number of affected individuals may exceed 20,000, given the company's recent announcement of layoffs exceeding 10 percent.

The Model Y and Cybertruck are the principal products of the Austin production plant; nevertheless, it is unclear how exactly affected jobs, including factory jobs, are broken down.

Tesla's shares increased by 2% in New York trade despite the layoffs, but the stock has performed poorly overall this year, ranking as the worst-performing stock with a 42 percent fall.

The choice to cut employees was made by Tesla in the middle of internal struggles and a larger transition.

Internal restructuring and strategic realignment are under place as the firm advances Elon Musk's vision of a robotaxi future, mirroring Tesla's continuous development within the automotive sector.

Tesla's employment drop is not a unique incidence in the corporate landscape; numerous other major players in the sector have lately made major job layoffs public.

For example, the cloud computing business of Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to eliminate hundreds of positions, the sports brand Nike announced plans to terminate the employment of about 700 people, and Google announced plans to decrease its staff by 12,000 employees worldwide.
