Jigawa Commissioner suspended by Governor Namadi for alleged embezzlement of Ramadan feeding funds

Aminu Kanta, Jigawa State's Commissioner for Commerce, has been suspended by Governor Umar Namadi due to allegations of embezzlement of monies meant for Ramadan feeding programs.

The suspension took effect immediately in response to claims that money intended for the state's Ramadan Iftar feeding program in Babura Local Government Area had been improperly taken.

On Friday, April 5, in Dutse, the state capital, Secretary to the State Government Bala Ibrahim made a statement that included the governor's decision.

The announcement said that the impacted commissioner would stay suspended while the governor's investigating committee looked into the claim and reached a conclusion.

“Governor Namadi's action underscores his commitment to responsible financial management and tackling misuse of public funds,” stated the statement.

The Jigawa State Executive Council gave its approval to the distribution of N2.8 billion for the state's 27 local government areas' Ramadan Iftar feeding program.

There are now 600 official feeding centers, at least two of which are located in each parliamentary ward.

Furthermore, specific hubs were created in state-wide higher education institutions.

Throughout Ramadan, each center serves meals to a minimum of 300 people every day.

Nigeria has thirty-six states, including Jigawa State, which is situated in the north of the nation. Under General Ibrahim Babangida's regime, it was established in August 1991.
