Abia State Government Clears Pension Arrears
I've paid up the arrears of the Abia pension, says Alex otti
Governor Alex Otti declared that he has paid all pension arrears owed to pensioners since taking office on May 29, 2023. He had done so with more than N9 billion of the N10 billion set aside for the exercise.
Otti revealed this during the monthly media chat in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
He further disclosed that, as of last Thursday, all 12,500 retirees' pensions and arrears had been paid out.
He recalled that on May 29, 2023, his administration made a vow to settle all pension arrears by the end of the same year.
That being said, the governor lamented the fact that the extremely hard retiree verification process had only recently come to an end.
Pensioners would henceforth receive 100% of their benefits on or before the 28th of each month, the governor pledged.
“As we are paying 100 per cent of salaries we will also pay 100 per cent of pensions.
“Never again shall we have a backlog of pensions and arrears to be paid,” Otti vowed.
The state's healthcare delivery system will continue to be given top priority, according to the governor's office.
He said that more than eighty physicians had been hired by the government and an organization to provide free medical care throughout the state.
According to Otti, in the next days, the medical staff that had already begun to arrive in the state will perform surgeries and administer other treatments.
The governor gave assurances that the administration had organized transportation, particularly for those traveling from areas other than Umuahia, the state capital.
He encouraged everyone to get a health check and benefit from the free workout.
Otti declared that the state's 948 primary health care centers would continue to be retrofitted as part of his administration's plan.
In addition, the governor answered questions from the media and discussed a range of topics pertaining to the state's growth.
