The Lagos State Sports Commission Introduces Lagos Stars

Lagos STARS (Sports Talents & Athletes Redefining Success) is a brand-new program that the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has introduced to honor, recognize, and celebrate exceptional athletes, emerging talent, and committed stakeholders that are forming the state's vibrant and diverse sports ecosystem.

Lagos STARS is a reflection of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, who is dedicated to fostering and advancing athletic excellence.

The project will include a variety of mechanisms for acknowledgment and support, such as celebrating athletes from a variety of sports and recognizing their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the state's sporting capacity.

Additionally, it will acknowledge the vital role that coaches, trainers, administrators, and other stakeholders play in helping athletes and talents succeed, valuing their commitment and contributions to the sports community.

Lagos STARS will also place a high priority on the identification and development of talent, actively searching out and fostering young athletes to enable them to reach their greatest potential.

The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, spoke about the project and emphasized the role Lagos STARS plays in advancing the state's sporting goals.

He stated, “Lagos STARS underscores the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu towards enhancing sporting excellence in the state. This initiative will shine a spotlight on individuals and teams who are redefining success, pushing boundaries, inspiring others, and bringing pride to Lagos state through their sports achievements.”

The Lagos State Sports Commission's Director of the Technical Department, Mr. Ola Okunnu, praised the program as well, pointing out that Lagos STARS is a unique endeavor that will open doors for a better future for sports in Lagos. “It will enchant athletes, inspire sports talents, and propel the state towards achieving even greater sporting success on the national and international stage” he said.
