Customers Are Urged By OPay To Link BVN And NIN To Their Accounts
As required by the Central Bank of Nigeria, financial services company OPay has urged its clients to finalize the regularization of their accounts by linking their National Identity Numbers (NIN) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).
The apex bank ordered all deposit money institutions to implement a "Post no Debit" restriction on all bank accounts without BVN and NIN in a circular dated December 1.
“For all existing Tier1 accounts/wallets without BVN or NIN: I. Effective immediately, any unfunded account/wallet shall be placed on ‘Post No Debit or credit until the new process is satisfied,”’ according to the circular, which was jointly signed by the directors of the Payments System Management Department, Chibuzo Efobi, and the Financial Policy and Regulation Department, Haruna Mustapha. The circular stated that all funded accounts without BVN would be placed on “Post No Debit or Credit,” and that no further transactions would be allowed starting on March 1.
“Based on CBN's regulation, OPay urges anyone who has not completed the account information update to do so by clicking the in-app notification and follow the step-by-step prompts to update their account information to enjoy using the service,” the company stated in a statement on Thursday, reiterating the CBN's directive.

The company, which was offering solutions, advised clients who had grievances or problems during the process to get in touch with OPay's customer support through the in-app self-service, its official social media pages, or by going to any of OPay's local offices. They are accessible around-the-clock to address any issues and assist users with the verification procedure.
