Four women die in a stampede in Bauchi while participating in an underprivileged alm provisions

A stampede that occurred during an almsgiving event for the impoverished in Bauchi State claimed the lives of four women.

The incident happened on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at around 10 a.m. at the Shafa Holdings Company Plc offices along Jos Road.

It was learned that the group had been at the business as early as 7 am to receive the Zakat items; they were primarily ladies, kids, widows, and divorcees.

The process proceeded without incident as the beneficiaries were called in groups to get the things. However, as soon as some of them were restless and nervous, it became difficult for them to enter the main premises.

As the women attempted to barge inside the building, a stampede broke out.

Numerous of them landed on the ground and were trampled, which resulted in the deaths.

Four of them were pronounced dead after they arrived at the Abubakar Tafawa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH Bauchi State, for emergency care.

The State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, verified the event and stated that things had stabilized.

Just two days prior, two female students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, died in a stampede that happened in the university's convocation area during the distribution of palliative care by the Nasarawa State government.

This is comparable to an incident that happened in Lagos where food sales were suspended by the Nigeria Customs Service after a rush at the NCS Old Zonal Headquarters in Yaba resulted in fatalities.

The auctioning of seized food goods at reduced prices was intended to help those who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Suspected hoodlums trying to break into the Customs office property provoked a chaos that claimed the lives of seven people, including a pregnant mother, aimed to provide seized food products at discounted prices in an effort to ease financial concerns.
