Supreme Court Declares Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of the PDP As Governor Of Plateau State

Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of the PDP has been proclaimed by the Supreme Court as the legitimate governor of Plateau State

The appellate court's decision was deemed perverse by the apex court in its lead judgement, which was delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim on Friday.

The court decided that the matter pertaining to the Mutfwang primary election fell outside the purview of the lower court. It made clear that an election cannot be declared void because of issues with nomination or sponsorship validity.

The top court ruled that the lower court erred in its decision because the petitioners had no standing to contest the party's primary election because they were not PD members.

The Supreme Court ruled that the appellate court erred in concluding that the order has an impact on the National Executive Committee (NEC) in the case of the Plateau State High Court's order.

Justice Agim went on to say that the Tribunal and Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction over the primary issue because it was a matter within political parties.

The Court further emphasized that, in contrast to the petitioners' assertion and the appellate court's ruling, the PDP did not disregard the Plateau High Court's order because evidence indicated that a new primary was held.

He cautioned the legal community to awaken or risk becoming obsolete in the eyes of the public.

John Okoro, the Presiding Justice, bemoaned the suffering inflicted by the appellate court's incorrect rulings, which resulted in the dismissal of multiple legislators who had been elected on the PDP platform.
