The Lagos state government allegedly spent N2 billion on rechargeable fans, N7.5 million on liquid fragrance for Governor Sanwo-Olu's office, N500 million on church renovations, and others for the Deputy Governor's office.
The public is currently scrutinizing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after it was revealed in state procurement documents that he approved spending N3 billion on rechargeable fans for his deputy's office, Obafemi Hamzat, and N7.5 million to replace liquid fragrance in his own office.
A new Lexus LX 600 Bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicle will be purchased for the Office of Chief of Staff for a sum of about N440 million, according to other contracts granted by the state's Public Procurement Agency (PPA) in the second and third quarters of 2023.
Moreover, N18.5 million was given to the Chief of Staff's office for the procurement and distribution of 2,000 Noiler chicks throughout the state's wards and local government areas.

Also N152 million was allocated by the government to restore the water supply to Iduganran Palace, the Oba of Lagos' ceremonial residence. Additionally, records indicated that the state would renovate Saint Andrews Anglican Church in the Oke-Popo region of the state for N581 million.
The office of the deputy governor was awarded N30m for monthly outreach of indigent citizens by the wife of the deputy governor. Another N30 million was given to the office for an empowerment program. Funsho Doherty, the Action Democratic Congress' (ADC) candidate for governor of Lagos in 2023, questioned several of the contracts and stated he has written an open letter to Governor Sanwo-Olu asking for a review of some of the projects.
He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “I just wrote an open letter to the Governor on Public Procurement awards reported by LASG for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023, highlighting a number of issues for further scrutiny and remedial action. Judicious use of public funds is always important, and is especially so now.”
He mentioned in the letter that the Chief of Staff's office received N18,468,000 for the “supply and distribution of 2,000 Noiler chicken across the local government areas and wards in the state.
“Another sum of N440,750,000 was awarded to the office of the chief of staff for the procurement of a brand new Lexus LX 600 Bullet Proof Sport Utility Vehicle for use in the Pool of Office of Chief.
“The sum of N7,475,000 was also awarded for the replacement of the liquid fragrance in the Office of Mr Governor, Lagos House, Ikeja.
“The office of deputy governor was awarded the sum of N30,000,000 for monthly outreach of indigent citizens by the wife of the deputy governor.
“Another N30,000,000 was awarded for monthly empowerment programmes of the wife of the deputy governor.
“The sum of N2,017,840,000 was awarded for the provision of supply items (rechargeable fans, rechargeable lights and fridge in the office of the deputy governor.
He said the government also awarded the sum of N531,553,559 for the “renovation of Saint Andrews Anglican Church. Oke-Popo, Lagos.”
