Late on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu met with the five PDP governors led by Nysome Wike, including one currently serving and four retired governors.
According to information obtained, the meeting was preceded by a meeting conducted at Nyesom Wike's home in Abuja, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
It was learned shortly after the meeting that Wike had arranged for President Tinubu to meet with his erstwhile colleagues in the Presidential Villa.
As of the time of filing this story at 10:45 p.m., details of the meeting were hazy, but it was understood that the topic on the table was the president's working relationship with the former governors.
A source who attended the meeting but asked to remain anonymous because he wasn't authorized to discuss it stated. "The G-5 PDP Governors first met in Wike's residence for a few hours before heading to the Villa to meet with the president.
The former governors were meeting with President Tinubu just 24 hours before the Imo State PDP governorship campaign kicked off in Owerri, and the source pointed out that this was instructive given the mounting tension around who should hold the position of party secretary.
The following former governors were present at the meeting: Nyesom Wike, the outgoing governor of Rivers State and current minister for the FCT; Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the former governor of Enugu; Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor of Abia; and Seyi Makinde, the current governor of Oyo.
