Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals That She And Will Smith Are No Longer Together
Talk show presenter Jada Pinkett announced she and Actor Will Smith are separated since 2016
Jada Pinkett Smith has disclosed that since 2016, she and Will Smith have lived "completely different" lifestyles.
Prior to her sit-down interview with Hoda Kotb on the "Today" show, Pinkett Smith broke the shocking information about the longtime marriage in a preview tape that was released on Wednesday morning.
"There are so many surprising things in the book, but the thing that surprised me the most, that I actually had to reread it, because I said, 'Is this true?' was that in 2016, you and Will decided that you were going to live completely separate lives." Kotb tells the actor in the clip.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been married since 1997 and have two children together: a son named Jaden Smith and a daughter named Willow Smith.
Over the years, the public has been interested in their relationship, notably when Smith revealed to GQ that they weren't monogamous and Pinkett Smith's "entanglement" with singer August Alsina.
It was a split, not a divorce, according to Pinkett Smith, and they had been living apart for the previous seven years.
Pinkett Smith claimed that she delayed disclosing the nature of her connection with Smith until now because she wasn't "ready yet."
When asked what caused the "relationship to fracture," Pinkett Smith replied that "a lot of things" could be to blame.
The star explained in further detail: "I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be."

Pinkett Smith finally spoke out about the Oscars incident in the interview, in which Smith slapped Chris Rock after the host of the ceremony made a joke about her shaved hair because she has alopecia.
"I was like, "There's no way that Will hit him," Pinkett Smith said. "It wasn't until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn't a skit."
When the couple was by themselves after the Oscars, Pinkett Smith said she asked Smith, "Are you OK?"
Pinkett Smith also said she and Smith were "still figuring it out."
"We've been doing some really heavy- duty work together," she said. "We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us."
In the interview, Pinkett Smith also talked openly about her struggles with depression, which included pondering suicide and her usage of the hallucinogenic substance ayahuasca.
She said that before she and Smith started dating, she was taking Prozac for her depression and receiving treatment.
"Once I met Will, I completely abandoned my mental health. I was so intoxicated by him and our dynamic. I really felt like I'm cured," the 52-year-old said.
Pinkett Smith said that by the time she was 40, she was in "so much pain."
"I couldn't figure a way out besides death," she said. "So I made a plan." She said stopped having suicidal thoughts when she started taking ayahuasca.
"It gave me a new intimate relationship with myself that I had never had before," she said.
