Jada Pinkett Smith revealed an intriguing interaction with comedian Chris Rock in the wake of the revelation that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been leading separate lifestyles for the past seven years.
She stated that Chris took it upon himself to enter the picture during the summers when there were rumors of divorce surrounding her and Will. In an interview that appeared in People on October 11, 2023, Jada gave an explanation.
"And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, 'I'd love to take you out.' And I was like, 'What do you mean?' He was like, 'Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?' I was like, 'No. Chris, those are just rumours." He was appalled. And he profusely apologized, and that was that," she said.
This information was made public following Jada's appearance on the Today Show, where she spoke candidly about her breakup with actor Will Smith. Despite living apart since 2016, they haven't yet divorced. They had trouble figuring out how to manage their relationship and keep up the appearance that they were a happy couple in public.
Their marriage, which began in 1997, has been under the spotlight for various reasons. Singer August Alsina claimed to have been romantically involved with Jada in 2020, shedding light on their challenging times. The 2022 Oscars incident, where Will slapp£d Chris Rock for joking about Jada's hair loss, further exposed their marital issues.
