LAGOS HALTS ALL CONSTRUCTION ON BANANA ISLAND
Following a direction from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Government has begun an investigation into the collapse of a seven-story structure under construction on Banana Island, Ikoyi.
Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, announced the position in a statement on Thursday.
Omotoso stated that no one was killed in the incident, which occurred on Wednesday as of the time of the report, and that 25 people were rescued from the site, which the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency scanned for life with a high-precision 3-D Laser Imagery System and found no evidence of anyone trapped under the rubble.
The site supervisors also conducted a roll call, and everyone was there.
According to Omotoso, LASEMA has continued with the excavation of the site while using the architectural designs.
According to him, the site has been separated into quadrants for a meticulous search and rescue effort. The search operation has been concluded, and quadrants 2 and 3 have been leveled to ground zero.
He stated that Quadrants 1 and 4 are still in progress.
He stated that the operations are being coordinated by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Bamgbose-Martins, an engineer, and Special Duties Special Adviser, Mobolaji Ogunlende.
He stated that the search-and-rescue activities are being led by LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, while the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has visited the scene and hospitals where victims of the event have been admitted.
16 of the 25 people rescued by LASEMA were admitted to General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, and Police Hospital, Falomo for treatment and care.
Lagos State Ambulance Services treated and discharged nine others with minor injuries such as bruises at the scene (LASAMBUS).
Of the 16 persons on admission, 11 were taken to Police Hospital, Falomo.
Eight of the eleven people have been treated and released.
Some are obliged to come in on a daily basis for monitoring and management.
Three people have been admitted to the hospital with varied injuries, including a blunt traumatic chest injury, knee injuries, and deep lacerations.
