Serie A: Lazio Demolish Sassuolo As Noslin Double Sends Biancocelesti Top
| Lazio hit Sassuolo for six to go three points clear in Serie A |
In a breathless eight-goal classic at the Mapei Stadium, Lazio smashed six past 10-man Sassuolo to extend their rampant start and pile more misery on Alberto Aquilani's winless hosts.
Tijjani Noslin brace inspires Lazio to 6-2 thrashing of Sassuolo to go top of Serie A...
Lazio maintained their blistering start to the campaign with a comprehensive 6-2 win at Sassuolo, who have now gone five league games without a victory (D1, L4).
Sassuolo's unbeaten home record at the Mapei Stadium was shattered early, with Lazio striking in just the second minute as Kenneth Taylor pounced after Luca Lipani's attempted clearance fell straight to the Dutchman.
The hosts responded well, however, and levelled just five minutes later when Josh Doig found Kristian Thorstvedt, whose deflected effort beat Christos Mandas.
It marked the first time the Biancocelesti had conceded in the first half of a Serie A match this season, but they regained the lead six minutes later as Gustav Isaksen fired a superb first-time finish into the bottom corner from Mattia Zaccagni's cross.
It was a frantic opening, and the noisy away support were celebrating a third goal when Romano Floriani slid in at the far post to convert Taylor's cross for his first senior strike for Lazio.
After four goals inside the opening 16 minutes, Sassuolo were reduced to ten men when Thorstvedt was sent off for a studs-up tackle on Zaccagni, while Armand Lauriente saw a second goal for the hosts disallowed for offside.
However, Sebastiano Esposito pulled one back shortly after, producing a superb finish beyond Mandas to cut the deficit.
But the goal rush in a chaotic first half was not finished yet, with Zaccagni heading past Stefano Turati from Isaksen's cross in first-half stoppage time.
After such a frenetic opening 45 minutes, you might have expected the end-to-end action to settle down after the break.
The drama continued, though, when Simone Cinquegrano was punished for handball inside the area and, after a VAR check, referee Luca Zufferli awarded a penalty.
Zaccagni failed to take advantage, however, as Turati comfortably saved his tame effort from the spot.
But Gennaro Gattuso's side did not have to wait long for their fifth of the night, as Tijjani Noslin bent a superb right-footed effort into the bottom corner.
A sixth Lazio goal looked certain when they were awarded another penalty after Duje Caleta-Car pushed Isaksen over in the area. A change of penalty taker made no difference from 12 yards, however, as Turati comfortably denied Davide Frattesi.
It made little difference to the outcome, and Noslin completed the rout with Lazio's sixth a fierce long-range strike with his right foot that flew past Turati to restore Gattuso's side's four-goal advantage.

That rounded off an impressive night for Lazio, who moved three points clear at the summit and threw down the challenge to Inter before their trip to Venezia on Wednesday. The defeat leaves Alberto Aquilani's side 14th, though the four-point cushion to the bottom three could shrink further in the next 24 hours.
