Bodo/Glimt Stadium Row: Commercial Cash vs Local Identity
| Bodo/Glimt in heated row with Fans over new Stadium name |
What should have been a landmark moment for Bodo/Glimt has turned into a battle over identity, as the Arctic giants weigh commercial survival against the soul of Northern Norway.
PowerOffice Arctic Arena? Bodo/Glimt fans reject corporate Stadium name...
Arctic giants Bodo/Glimt are locked in a heated debate with their own fans over the name of their new stadium.
Stakeholders are struggling to find common ground on the proposed commercial name “PowerOffice Arctic Arena.” The club's management and board have faced intense pushback from supporters and members who want to balance commercial necessity with regional and local identity.
The board is pushing for members to approve “PowerOffice Arctic Arena.” The naming rights agreement with local tech company PowerOffice is reportedly worth nearly €7 million over 10 years.
Main commercial sponsor PowerOffice has gone as far as to say it will not guarantee its financial backing if the “Arctic Arena” part of the name is voted down or removed during club meetings.
Regional development groups have also backed the proposal, arguing that the name would serve as a global marketing tool for Northern Norway.
Club members and local fans remain heavily critical, however, describing the hybrid name as “soulless” and overly corporate.
Many supporters argue that a stadium built so heavily on regional identity and public funding through land deals and municipal support should not completely sell out that identity.

Fans have actively pushed for alternatives, such as moving the sponsor name to the end e.g., “Bodo Stadion by PowerOffice” or incorporating the historical area name ThalleÃ¥keren, where the stadium is being built.
Because Bodo/Glimt operates on a democratic membership model, the final decision will come down to a high-stakes vote at an extraordinary annual members' meeting to either accept the multi-million-euro corporate name or force a rethink to protect local heritage.
The club and its members are set to make a final decision on the stadium name on Saturday.
