Roberto De Zerbi: Spurs Will Score Soon Despite 4-Game Blank
Four games, zero goals, and two points. Roberto De Zerbi knows the pressure is building at Tottenham, but he insists his new-look attack just needs time.
Roberto De Zerbi says he still has faith in Tottenham’s attack even amid their scoring slump...
Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi said nothing has changed with Richarlison, and confirmed the Brazilian striker will miss Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third-round trip to Liverpool.
Spurs are still searching for their first Premier League goal this season after four games, and sit on just two points. The poor start has put De Zerbi under pressure, despite the club bringing in 10 new signings over the summer.
Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Everton over the weekend made it four league games without a goal, the longest goalless start to a season in the club’s history.
“The situation is the same,” De Zerbi told reporters on Monday.
“At the start of this season I spoke to him many times to convince him (Richarlison) to stay and he didn't want to. I can't go every day to pray for him to stay.”
That decision means Tottenham will be without a forward who has netted 4 goals in 7 games against Liverpool.
De Zerbi, however, said he still believes in his revamped attack, adding that the new signings will improve as they get fitter and settle into his system.
Dominic Solanke up front, plus summer additions Savio, Omar Marmoush, Mohammed Kudus, Conor Gallagher, and Mathys Tel, are all still waiting to make their mark in the final third after a slow start to the season.
"Solanke is a good player and I'm sure he has to improve his physical condition and to stay positive, he's able to score many goals with us,” De Zerbi said.
“Savio and Marmoush didn't play many games in Manchester City because they were not the protagonists. Here the situation is different, they have more responsibility, they have to adapt and understand the situation is changing, but in terms of quality both players are very good.”
“The game tomorrow is an important game for us.”
