EPL: Goal-Shy Spurs Held To 0-0 By Everton In Worst Start To Season
| Spurs Vs Everton |
Spurs make unwanted history after another blank in 0-0 draw. Pickford and Bentancur deny chances in goalless Spurs-Everton stalemate.
Everton hold Spurs to third straight 0-0 draw...
Spurs are still waiting for their first win and first goal of the Premier League campaign after being held 0-0 at home by Everton, who made it three draws in a row.
It’s been a rough start for Tottenham despite big summer spending, and they were quick to try and put things right against Everton.
They almost had the lead inside five minutes. Andy Robertson, jeered by the away fans on his return to face Everton, whipped a perfect free-kick to Jan Paul van Hecke at the back post, but he blazed over.
Aside from that early chance, the first 30 minutes passed without much action, as neither team could build any real momentum.
Half-chances fell to Robertson and Sandro Tonali before the break, but neither player could make anything of them.
That summed up a dull first half. Neither side had a shot on target until stoppage time, when Antonin Kinsky tipped James Garner’s free-kick around the post.
De Zerbi’s side had their first shot on target early in the second half. Fernandes’ weak shot was easily gathered by Pickford, which drew sarcastic applause around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The tense atmosphere nearly boiled over when a half-cleared Everton corner fell to Tyrique George. But Rodrigo Bentancur was there to block and keep it 0-0.
Everton had an even better chance midway through the second half after Spurs gifted them the ball. Kinsky’s sloppy pass was intercepted by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but the goalkeeper made amends with a vital save to deny him.
Everton kept creating the better openings. Former Spurs winger Brennan Johnson was the latest to miss, dragging a shot wide after Dewsbury-Hall picked him out unmarked on the edge of the box.
Tottenham pushed for a late winner and almost got it when Pickford turned Lucas Bergvall’s strike behind. But they drew a blank again their first ever Premier League season to start with four games without a goal.

The Toffees remain without defeat this term, though another draw leaves them with work to do if they want to climb the table.
