Dart Dominates Again: Giants QB Goes 2-0 vs Cowboys With 3 TDs in 28-22 Win

Giants top Cowboys 28-22 as Jaxson Dart shines in week 1 win  

For the second straight year, Jaxson Dart owned the Cowboys. The second-year QB threw 3 touchdowns with no picks as New York outlasted Dallas 28-22 in a physical season opener.


Isaiah Likely’s 2-TD night powers Giants past Cowboys 28-22...


The New York Giants edged the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 on Sunday night in an NFC East showdown, giving John Harbaugh his first win as Giants head coach.


The victory carried extra weight for New York, coming just after the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Harbaugh, who spent the previous 18 seasons with Baltimore, made an immediate statement in his Giants debut.  


New York set a new milestone, beating Dallas at home in Week 1 for the first time in team history. The only other Week 1 win over the Cowboys came 10 years ago on September 11th  in Dallas.

  
New York dominated on money downs too, going 9-for-11 on third-down conversions.



Slow Start, Then Skattebo Breaks Through

The opening half was mostly quiet between both sides. Then the Giants put together a 10-play, 83-yard march, capped by Cam Skattebo’s touchdown run that gave New York a 7-0 lead.  


New York had just that one drive in the first quarter, while Dallas came away empty on both of its possessions and was forced to punt each time.




The Giants couldn’t get anything going on their next possession and had to punt, which opened the door for Dallas to answer back.  


The Cowboys responded in similar fashion, putting together a 10-play, 85-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, his first catch of the night.

 



New York answered with a 64-yard drive of their own, but it stalled when Tyrone Tracy Jr. coughed up the ball at the Dallas 16-yard line.  


The G-Men got a break late in the half though, forcing Dallas’ first turnover of the year and taking over with under a minute to go.




Dak Prescott threw his first pick of the season when Jevon Holland made a sliding grab along the sideline. Prescott also had an interception in last year’s Week 2 meeting with New York a 40-37 overtime Giants win.  


Holland only had one interception all of last season, and he’s already matched that total in Week 1. It’s also the fifth time in six NFL seasons that he’s recorded at least one pick.  


A false start on third down backed New York up near midfield, but Jaxson Dart responded with consecutive first-down completions to Malik Nabers and Darnell Mooney to move the ball to the Dallas 20.  


Dart hit Isaiah Likely for a quick 5-yard gain, then found the tight end wide open in the corner of the end zone for the score. It was Likely’s first touchdown since joining the Giants this offseason, and it sent New York into halftime up 14-7.




Likely picked up right where he left off to open the second half.  


New York came out of the break looking to extend the lead, and they did exactly that marching 74 yards on 12 plays before Dart hit Likely again, this time from 2 yards out to make it 21-7.  


It was Likely’s third career game with multiple touchdowns, and his first since Oct. 6, 2024 against the Bengals.




Dallas chewed up most of the third quarter on their next possession, grinding out a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Javonte Williams.  


Williams has now found the end zone in 4 of his last 5 games for Dallas, dating back to last season.  


It was a low-volume quarter for both sides. Each team had just one meaningful drive, and the Giants ran out the final 37 seconds with a 7-yard scramble from Jaxson Dart.

 



Dallas took a hit on defense in the fourth quarter, losing both DeMarvion Overshown to a hamstring injury and Malik Hooker to a chest issue.  

The Giants piled on soon after. Jaxson Dart connected with Devin Singletary for his third touchdown pass of the night to push New York’s lead to 28-14.  


That gave Dart three TD passes on the night, matching the career high he set last year against Denver on October 19th.  


Dart has been sharp against Dallas in his brief career, 5 touchdowns, 0 interceptions in two starts. He also closed out last season’s 34-17 win over the Cowboys with 262 total yards and 2 scores.




The momentum briefly swung back toward Dallas... well, sort of.


Prescott hit Williams for his second touchdown of the night, but the celebration cost the Cowboys. Williams drew a taunting flag for tossing the ball in the direction of Giants safety Tyler Nubin.  


The penalty backed the extra point up 15 yards, and Brandon Aubrey missed from the longer distance. That left Dallas trailing by 8 with time running out.


New York kept the clock moving on the next drive and Dallas couldn’t get a stop, thanks in part to a first-down run from Skattebo. He wrapped up the night with 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.




The Cowboys only saw the ball twice after halftime, and they scored on both drives. That was it though, they never got it back again.  


Dart closed it out with 230 passing yards and 3 touchdowns on 23-of-29, plus 54 rushing yards more than any Cowboys player had. He’s now 2-0 as a starter against Dallas with 546 total yards, 5 touchdowns, 0 picks, and a 122.2 passer rating.


Two of Dart’s highest-rated games as a pro have both come against Dallas. On Sunday night, Likely paced the Giants’ passing attack with 8 catches for 69 yards and 2 scores, while Nabers added 6 grabs for 69 yards.  


Prescott finished 22-of-34 for 175 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 pick. CeeDee Lamb topped Dallas’ receivers with 5 catches on 8 targets for 41 yards and a touchdown.  


New York won the yardage battle 394-244, and it was efficient all around, the two teams combined to go 17-for-22 on third down.
